PTPCam LabVIEW Toolkit 1.3
|
A LabVIEW still camera drivers that based on PTP (picture transfer protocol). PTP
is the new standard for still imaging devices such as still camera and scanner
that communicate over USB or IEEE1394/firewire bus. Camera vendors do not
need to provide special drivers for PTP compliance cameras, it's being widely
supported by many brand names such as Kodak, HP, Sony, Canon, Nikon etc.
Although PTP is OS independant, PTPCam LabVIEW toolkit only works for
windows version. (WinXP or higher). This toolkit can be used together with IVision
LabVIEW toolkit or other image processing toolkit for further image processing
and display. If user is looking for functions for video camera instead of still
camera, they should look at IVision LabVIEW toolkit, because there are many
functions for video cameras in IVision toolkit.
Depends on your camera, you have more or less control over your camera
remotely via PC. A good one such as Nikon coolpix 5700, coolpix 8700 provides
many camera settings to be controlled remotely. Camea settings include focus,
exposure, zoom, contrast, image width and height etc. Please read the vis
description for more information or download an evaluation version.
Below is a software example written in LabVIEW to show some functions such
as snap a picture, transfer all pictures from camera, delete all pictures in
camera, retrieve device name and camera storage information etc.
Note: some HP, Nikon, Canon and Sony cameras have to be switched to PTP
mode as the camera support dual mode: PTP and USB Mass Storage or PTP and
native.
Although no special drivers needed for PTP supporting cameras, but some
vendors also provide their own WIA drivers for WinXP or higher, so maybe you
should install the vendor provided WIA drivers to ensure their cameras work better.
Tips: Want to know if your camera supports remote picture capture with PTP
transfer? You can test out with "Camera and Scanner Wizard" that comes with
Winxp, if you can take a picture in the wizard application, you should be able to
use this PTPCam LabVIEW toolkit to take a picture from your camera remotely too.
LabVIEW is trade mark of National Instrument.
